Albury Animal Rescue is run by volunteers and our members may not always have time to keep this page current. Please ring the Pound with any enquiries.

We cannot stress enough the need to have your dog or cat microchipped and identified with a collar, tag and phone number. And even more important is to keep his details up to date!

I FOUND A DOG WANDERING THE STREET, WHAT CAN I DO?

The best thing to do is ring your local pound.  A ranger can come and scan the dog for a microchip and if possible contact the owners and return the dog.

Or the dog will be impounded until it’s owners can collect it.

You can also take the dog to a veterinary clinic where they can scan for a chip and get the owner details.

Albury Animal Rescue is unable to take possession of stray dogs until they have spent regulation time in a pound facility and have been temperament tested by us.

The Albury pound explained

Under NSW Legislation dogs that come into Albury Pound as strays have fourteen days to be claimed by their owners if they are microchipped and seven days if they are not.

The staff make every effort to contact dog owners using either their microchip details or collar tag. Please make sure your dog’s microchip details are kept up to date.

Surrendered dogs and cats can be euthanised at any time.

Once their time is up and if they have not been claimed by their owner, adopted or placed into foster care with Albury Animal Rescue or the RSPCA they are humanely euthanised. This is not an easy task for the staff of the pound but unfortunately irresponsible dog owners leave them with no option.

Albury Animal Rescue works closely with the dedicated employees of Albury Pound to save as many lives as possible but not every dog can or should be saved.
