A large number of our dogs come from the Albury, Wodonga and Corowa Pounds. Our volunteers regularly monitor dogs in the pounds, temperament test them and then wait for their time to be up.
If they are not claimed or adopted from the pound then we place then into foster homes until we can find permanent homes for them.
We also have some adult dogs surrendered to us for honest reasons.
Then there are the pregnant bitches and litters of young puppies surrendered to us by people who didn’t realise how much responsibility it is to ‘breed’ dogs.
These are difficult and expensive rescues for us, as they often need veterinary treatment and finding foster carers to take a pregnant bitch or litter of sickly, worm ridden pups is not easy.
But sadly most of our dogs are just older pups or young dogs who have ended up in the pound. These dogs just needed some training and time spent with them to turn them into fine dogs.
Other groups are the ‘designer dogs’ and small fluffy dogs. Designer dogs often come from puppy farms and do not grow into the dog that the purchaser expected! Small fluffy dogs need regular, sometimes daily grooming plus six weekly clipping. Often these dogs come to us in a shocking state and need extensive grooming before we can rehome them. They looked very cute in the pet shop but after a few months the reality of owning a long haired active little dog is not so cute.
Dog ownership is a long-term commitment, not a fashion fad.

I have divided the young dogs and older puppies into two categories; small to medium and medium to large.
But there will be a grey area in the medium sized dogs, so if you are looking for a particular sized dog please check out both categories.
