Albury
Dog Rescue is a dedicated group of volunteers working to rehome
unwanted pups and dogs in the Albury/Wodonga, region of Australia
and to educate the community about responsible dog ownership.
Most of our dogs are unclaimed strays from the Albury City Pound
or are surrendered by members of the public. At Albury Dog Rescue
we believe that all pets should be desexed to prevent the continuing
cycle of unwanted dogs in society. Because of this we only rehome
desexed dogs.
Our dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, desexed and wormed before
rehoming, with pups desexed at 5 months of age. The fee we charge
of $240.00 covers the costs of the vet work and provides a small
contribution towards the cost of feeding the dog whilst it is in
foster care.
Our volunteers play a vital role in what we do. We have wonderful
foster carers who allow dogs to live with them as members of their
family until they find new homes. Other volunteers form our fundraising
committee and work hard to ensure that there are sufficient funds
for dogs requiring additional vet work or training and to cover
the costs of insurance. If you are interested in volunteering and assisting us or sponsoring
a dog until it finds a new home please contact us.
Our website shows some of the dogs we currently have available for
adoption but please check back regularly as they change from week
to week.
Albury Dog Rescue has regular committee meetings and anyone is welcome
to come along and find out more about what we do.
Before adopting a new dog we ask you to consider
the 10 Canine Commandments
1. My life is likely
to last 10 to 15 years. Any separation from you will be painful
to me. Remember that before you buy me.
2. Give me time to
understand what you want from me.
3. Place your trust
in me. Its crucial to my well-being.
4. Don't be angry with
me for long, and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work,
your entertainment and your friends. I only have you.
5. Talk to me sometimes.
Even if I don't understand your words, I understand your voice when
its speaking to me.
6. Be aware that however
you treat me, I'll never forget it.
7. Remember before
you hit me: I have teeth that could easily crush the bones of your
hand, but I choose not to bite you.
8. Before you scold
me for being un-cooperative, obstinate or lazy, ask yourself if
something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right
food, or I've been out in the sun too long, or my heart is getting
old and weak.
9. Take care of me
when I get old. You too will grow old.
10. Go with me on
difficult journeys. Never say: "I can't bear to watch it",
or "Let it happen in my absence." Everything is easier
for me if you are there.
Remember that I love you.
