Albury Dog Rescue is a dedicated group of volunteers working to rehome unwanted pups, dogs and cats in the Albury/Wodonga region of Australia and to educate the community about responsible dog ownership.
We take pride in the fact that we focus on our aim of finding good homes for dogs and cats that would otherwise be put to sleep. We are passionate about doing the very best we can for every animal we rescue.
This website is exclusively for that purpose and is designed and maintained by a volunteer.
Most of our dogs are unclaimed strays from the Albury City Pound or are surrendered by members of the public. At Albury Dog Rescue we believe that all pet dogs and cats should be desexed to prevent the continuing cycle of unwanted dogs and cats in society. Because of this we only rehome desexed animals. Each dog is carefully temperament tested before it is placed into foster care.
The adoption fee includes vaccinations against Parvovirus, Distemper and Infectious Hepatitis. This is called the C3 vaccination. All dogs are microchipped, desexed and wormed before rehoming.
The fee we charge covers the costs of the vet work and provides a small contribution towards the cost of feeding the dog whilst it is in foster care.
We endeavour to carefully match dogs with their new owners so the owner has found the very best companion to suit their situation and the dog also is in the best environment for his future well being.

Our volunteers play a vital role in what we do. We have wonderful foster carers who allow dogs to live with them as members of their family until they find new homes. Other volunteers form our fundraising committee and work hard to ensure that there are sufficient funds for dogs requiring additional vet work or training and to cover the costs of insurance.
If you are interested in volunteering and assisting us or sponsoring a dog until it finds a new home please contact us.

In 2003 Trish Smith and Alison Press started out rescuing dogs from the Albury pound, taking them home and then advertising for good homes for them.
Soon they were joined by like minded friends who also rescued dogs and puppies and took them into their own homes before placing then in suitable new homes.
In 2006 Trish thought it would be easier to find the dogs homes if Albury Dog Rescue had its own website to enable people to look at the dogs and puppies at their leisure get some idea of what sort of dog they liked before meeting one. This website is designed and updated daily by a volunteer and has been a huge success in rehoming many dogs and cats.
Albury Dog Rescue now has a team of four volunteer administrators/coordinators, a number of foster carers for both dogs and cats and several fundraising volunteers. Many other people are networked around the region to provide transport, food and grooming.
Dr Jana’s Veterinary Centre work with us providing excellent veterinary care. We have also branched out into cat rescue and have even rescued and rehomed a pony!
Recently we added a pound dog page to our website where we feature dogs in the Albury Pound. The photos are taken regularly by our volunteers (not an easy job). The page has been successful in finding homes for many dogs who would have otherwise been put to sleep.
